World Scout Jamboree
The biggest challenge for most attending the Jamboree is fundraising the money to attend. Each participant needs to raise £3945 to attend the Jamboree, a significant portion of the fee from each UK Scout is used to assist Scouts from developing counties to attend the event.
To raise this we wanted to have as much fun as possible, after all, it is FUNdraising. So we decided to do a sponsored walk of the Pilgrims Way, 192 km of hills and harsh terrain, taking us 4 days.
Also, our Explorer group ran a Christmas Quiz, which was very successful, an evening of questions, practical rounds, food and best of all, Bingo.
The World Scout Jamboree is from 22nd July - 2nd August 2019 at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, America.
It's the 24th Jamboree and will be made up of Scouts from all over the world between the ages of 14 and 17. It will be jointly hosted between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico.
We will get to try out loads of different activities including, mountain biking, white water rafting, zip lining, climbing, archery and canoeing. We will also learn about different faiths and believes, cultures and international values.
Each county was allocated places which we had to apply for by following the application process, it was really tough and there where lots of applicants.
I'm really looking forward to meeting other scouts from around world and finding out about their ways and traditions, taking part in all the activities (they look fantastic), hopefully making some life long friendships and group contacts that 1st Hextable can stay in touch with.
